My other daughter

05.11.09

Not known to many is that I have another daughter. I actually have twins.

twins

Meet Cherub, Wendy’s cousin, born exactly 6 months after Wendy was born.

From the very start, when they were born, the similarities between them have been uncanny. They looked so much alike that, when they were together,  I couldn’t count the times people went up to me and asked whether they were twins. I would have a kick when I say that, yes, they were twins.

Magkamukha sila diba? Here they are at 1 year of age.

Up to around 5 years of age, the similarities were still there. But this didn’t stop with their physical appearance. As kids, magkasundo talaga silang dalawa. I guess it would be safe to assume that of all her girl cousins, Wendy was closest to Cherub, primarily because they had the same ugali.

Pati sa katawan, pareho sila! They were both siksik!

As they grew up, though, now at 8 years of age [Cherub will be turning 8 in October], their personalities started to diverge. Cherub was sweet as ever, whereas Wendy would seldom cuddle. Cherub would still be the baby, whereas Wendy would seem so mature. Wendy was a leader-type, whereas Cherub was the submissive type. Wendy was feisty, whereas Cherub would be tame. But these differences do not deter them from being close, almost like sisters. Besides, they still had their similarities, the biggest of which are their love of swimming and their LOVE OF FOOD [obvious ba?]!

Despite that fact that they don’t look alike anymore nowadays, I am amazed at how people still ask me if they are twins or, at the least, sisters. Maybe the bond that they share emanates, as if it was an unseen force.

The month, I experienced being a mother of two while Cherub vacationed in our house. Grabe! Ang hirap pala ng dalawang anak! Her vacation [as well as mine and Wendy's] was a flurry of mallings, outings, swimmings, pajama parties, baking sessions, and, of course, eating sprees. I know that their summer vacation lasts 2 months, but with all the activities we did the past 3 weeks, they might as well have spent the whole vacation already. I too had so much fun!

Moreover, I had the daughter I don’t have [not that I'm complaining about Wendy]. Wendy is not the affectionate type, and Cherub would be the one to cuddle up to me and give me hugs and kisses. Also, Cherub, unlike Wendy, is still like a baby, so we would coo and tease each other. Even my parents, sisters, and nephews are all drawn to her. She is really like a part of our family! More importantly, Wendy had the sister she doesn’t have. The two were practically inseperable the whole time Cherub was here! Wendy was so happy!

When Cherub went back to the province last Monday, she has spent her longest vacation in Manila, with us. She was happy to be going home but lonely to be leaving. Super enjoy daw kasi sya. I guess we [including my family] were ALL sad. We were going to miss our sweet Cherub. Even Wendy, who is usually reserved when it comes to her feelings, shed lots tears. Just a few minutes after Cherub left, she said sadly, with tears streaming down her face, “Mama, miss ko na si Cherub.” And I could only look sadly and nod as I know how she feels.

Til your next vacation Cherub!

Actually their eyes are different if you look closely. cherub’s eyes remind me of those of andre yllana(jomari’s son by aiko — showbiz ba??). Of course they’re both cute and yes, chubby nga. :) My 4-year old daughter also has a cousin (by way of my husband’s sister) who is just one month older than her. Unlike you though, bad ako kasi I secretly think my daughter is much more beautiful (and masaya ako when people point it out too). Haha…

  18. KG says on :

hi brown-eyed girl! i agree that their eyes are different. cherub’s dad kasi is half-chinese kaya medyo chinita sya, or, as my sister puts it, para syang egyptian. :)

  19. cpsanti says on :
